We've owned our Tesla Y for a while, both key cards and phones have stopped working twice. Re-registering them fixed it, but this time it was a stressful, my wife was locked out while at work. Thankfully, I could remotely start the car, but I’m worried about what happens if this occurs while we’re on vacation or far from home.

I had the same thing happen. The key reader went crazy. It wouldn't read my key, so I had to use my phone. They replaced it under warranty. If it keeps happening, you might want to get it replaced too.

It’s reassuring to hear this was resolved under warranty. I’ll keep an eye on the issue, and if it persists, I’ll look into having the key reader replaced.

Are you sure the phone's Bluetooth connection to the car is consistent? I have had phones registered for years without issues.
The Bluetooth connection seems fine, but it’s still worrying. It’s happened twice now, and I’m concerned about it happening far from home.

We’ve had our Model Y for a year, and thankfully no lockouts yet, but I always carry a spare key card just in case.
I’d suggest, keep one card in your wallet and maybe give another to a trusted friend or family member for emergencies. Make sure Bluetooth on your phone is always enabled and that the app stays logged in. Some updates log you out without warning. It’s worth sending Tesla a message through the app. They might be able to pinpoint if there’s an underlying issue with the locks or your account.
